100 mm x 65 mm x 55 mm. Box: Huon pine (Lagarostrobos franklinii). Lid: Ancient Red Gum∗ (Eucalyptus camaldulensis) lid. Finger lift Myrtle (Nothofagus cunninghamii). Lining: Pure wool felt.
∗ Ancient Red Gum - souced from trees that have fallen hundreds or even thousands of years earlier and have been buried and preserved for later retreival. The wood is stained to be almost black by impregnation of various tannins and elements in the soil. The wood is hard to come by and is difficult to work but highly sought after.
This is a small box with a drop in lid that can be used for small objects like rings, earrings or perhaps a small watch. Alternatively display it as an item in its own right with it’s striking combination of grains and colours.
The box is finished with multiple coats of blond shellac to provide protection and to maximise grain clarity. Over the shellac, ‘Renaissence’ wax gives a satin sheen, improved protection from fingerprints and a soft smoothness to the touch.
